If you're same most of the citizens, you never think about being stopped by the police. But believe it; most of us get stopped, whether you're rich or poor. The reason is because a police officer can't determine your status in the community until he stops you. Sure, if you're driving a new Mercedes or jaguar he might deduce that you're not poor, but in this day and age, he also knows that the driver could have borrowed the vehicle or rented it Also, it's not the container that's in assault most of the instant, but the utility.
Always remember that an officers' main advantage over you is your ignorance of the law. When an officer stops an attorney or anyone who is well acquainted with the law, he deals with this person different than a regular citizen. He knows that he could not only be fired, but put in jail. Believe me, every officer is weary about exactly who there'll dealing with on traffic stops. First of all, understand this, NO officer can arrest you, search you, or do anything to you without probable cause. It means an officer must have a reason that most humans would agree with under those circumstances. He can't guess, presume, or use theories to explain your actions. They must be reasons based on objectivity and a reasonable assumption. He can't stop everybody for just driving down the highway. He can't even stop you because you may have swerved in a lane. But if he observed you constantly swerving, that's 'probable' cause that you may be intoxicated'. It's not conclusive proof, but enough that he may check it out. It's a constant and persistent action that leads one to think that a law has been violated. If he stops you and noticed slurred speech, or an inability to stand, this action could propel him to investigate further, through the use of a breath test or any other test to establish your ability to drive.
All I'm saying is, the police officer is not the law, he can only determined if you violated the law. He's a person just like you, except he has been given the authority to determine if a violation has occurred on the public streets. You are not given that authority. So no matter if you're a driver or pedestrian, know your rights, obey the law, but by all means if you think that an officers' behaviour is wrong, report it to the internal affairs office. But if you're ever stopped by an officer, show him respect just like you desire respect. Drive safe, obey the laws, and arrive home safe.
