Product Description Grassroots Constitutionalism is a collection of fifteen essays written primarily by persons trained in history and in political science. Each contributor has a moderate to extensive publication record, and each writes as one who is keenly familiar with the subject matter of his/her essay. Part I of the collection contains four articles that approach constitutionalism from a more general perspective. For example, Norman W. Provizer paints a general portrait of the role that the U.S. Supreme Court has played in drawing constitutional boundaries over the past two centuries. Part II contains the judicial portraits of four individuals who have served the state of Louisiana on the federal bench - one on the U.S. Supreme Court and three on the lower federal courts. Part III consists of six short studies of specific cases or judicial issues that have had particular significance for the South and more specifically for residents of Louisiana. A final essay by Provizer discusses the Supreme Court's significance for American democratic theory.
